White Label Designer The whole "what kind of designer are you" issue doesn't make any sense to me. I judge all designer, artist , craftspeople based on there individual qualities and not by some label or category and I think people that decide to accept or reject something based on a weak categorization making a big mistake or are just narrow-minded. If you look at the definition of the word designer, it's a person who designs any of a variety of things and the task and implies the task of creating or of being creative. So narrowing it down to a single category is not the right way to approach it, it's not that one design category requires greater talent then another. They are just different skills and both take talent in different ways. So that's why I think that a collaboration of those skills will give the individual designer more freedom and possibilities and will definitely be very valuable for him. Because of this collaboration the different categories will also see that they have much more in common then are realize. I think that anyone who makes a mark with his design is attempting to communicate, and communicating true your concept and your product means you are a designer, independently from the medium you use are the category you are trained in. About the collective You work for your own promotion as a designer, the only thing is that we will be stronger as a group to profile ourselves and we can use each others skills to do a better job then by working on our own. A group will have more credibility than a single designer. As a group we need to make a statement and bring out a manifesto what makes clear where we stand for and what our principles and intentions are. The basic point for this manifesto is that design is a way to communicate your concept to the public and that a trained designer will do that independently from the medium or field of design he is trained in.

You find his protest on unethical corporations all over the streets of Miami. Where he tries to make the viewer aware of the hypocorism what big corporations try to feed us. He further doodles about everything that comes up in his mind, but always looks for the concept in his major work, or like he said " I concept when I can't sleep or when meetings last longer than needed. Sometimes I doodle but mostly I concept and create for the street "
Decaf Philosophy If you look at the definition for “designer”, it's a person who designs any of a variety of things and implies the task of creating or of being creative. So narrowing it down to a single type of product or field is not the right way to approach it, it's not that one design category requires greater talent than another. They are just different skills and both take talent in different ways. We think that a collaboration of skills will give the individual designer a wider view and possibilities and will definitely be very valuable for him and the client. Also with this collaboration among different design disciplines, each one will realize they have much more in common than the differences they think they have. We believe that anyone who makes a mark with his design is attempting to communicate, and communicating through your concept and your product means you are a designer, independently from the medium used or the type of design you are trained in. About Decaf We are a group of designers, collective, that believe that the talent of a designer shouldn't be limited to their area of expertise, and shouldn't be labeled according to his/her studies. A designer is able to expand his/her skills as he/she branches out into other areas of design. A designer, applies a conscious effort to create something that is both functional and aesthetically pleasing, who designs any of a variety of things. This person's job is to communicate a functional aspect making it aesthetically pleasing. So subjecting the work the designer can do to a single category is a narrow view of their work. They just are different skills in different design disciplines and they take talent in different ways. That’s why by joining our Upcoming design shows Decaf is planning to join 2 international design shows within the next 10 month’s The overall theme on these exhibitions will be related to Urban environment and the relationship with private space and everyday living environment. We live in cities, big or small, with quiet streets and busy highways. The city in which we live adds another layer to who we are: it influences our perspectives of the world, it shapes our thoughts and create our experiences. The city, the urban environment, affects our view of the world, our world inside. The city, urban space, has been considered by some as our fourth skin. Where “skin” is the envelope of our body and gives us the feeling of inside ness and communicates with the outside, skin give us the dichotomy of in and out. So when we think of the fourth skin and the urban spaces, and we look around at how the city communicates with us, the most intimate and meaningful dialogue is street art. Many consider graffiti a form of vandalism, a grotesque way to de-beautify our cities. These graffiti makers are still not considered artists by many. Here we find a label again, where people want to put in a small box the “creation” of an individual based on their educational background. And as we want to break these paradigms and labels, we are taking inspiration of the city, trying to bring elements of the street into the inside living space. We want to challenge the regular Joe Doe to bring the language of his city within his third skin, and experience his city in a different way. By excepting the paradigm of bringing into our personal space what we reject and revolve everyday in the urban environment, we try to create an awareness what will shake of the labels and take the art and experience just for what they are. As our main inspiration is the city in which we live, we try to bring the feelings of our streets to the living room. Our aim is to offer the clues and particularities of the street to the intimate space. With our projects we will create the feeling of the living room and challenge the viewer with concepts, experiences, materials and shapes found in the street, reinterpreted. With our designs we challenge feeling’s like isolation among many people , uneasiness of being watched and urge to leave your personal mark. skills we give the individual designer a wider scope, freedom and possibilities and with this collaboration we will have a much richer product that includes different points of view. Design and Concept Is conceptual design good ? Design is moving away from consumer use and production and get closer to museum pieces and art. Its good to have a concept but the designed object should be rather a product than a story. A designed product should be always in favor of the user and should be functional, rational and desirable over conceptual. Off course a design should start with a strong concept to give any value and background to the product, but at the end the product is the goal and not only serve a artistic or cultural purpose.
Q: What is Decaf? A: Decaf is a group of International multi-disciplinary Designers who's with there combined skills and cooperation try to create a better end product than each individual designer would have been capable off. Q: Why Decaf, what is the name about? A: We are a group of designers who try to get rid of “labels “ and categorization, With choosing a name what has such a strong label but nothing related to design, we can create a new unbiased relationship what refer to our concept of multi-disciplinary and multi-cultural design. Q: What are you goals? A: We are creating a network of designers in different disciplines and cultures located all over the world. The client who works with decaf get a skilled multi-disciplinary design team working on his project . The designer who works with Decaf get the opportunity to work with a international design team and receives an equal share of the revenue.
Decaf as i see it now will perform a general management function between the Designers and the Client, where the benefit for the designers will be that we provide them with work and they can position themselves as part of a global and multidisciplinary team. Decaf will do the administration, promotion, aftercare and communication with the client, the idea behind this is to take as much as possible worries of the designers shoulders and just let them do what they are best at ..Design! For the client there will be the benefit of having only 1 person/organisation to deal with and they have a team of global and multidisciplinary designers working on their project, something what will highly increase the quality of the product . Off course there are more minor benefits, but i think these are the most important ones. The idea how it works will be following: Decaf or one of the designers get a potential client/project. Decaf will discuss the details and the budget with the client. He will deposit the budget in a trust fund to use for the project. Decaf will assemble a team of designers suited to the project , the size based on a estimated profit expectation so each designer who joins the project will have a suitable compensation on the end. The projects to participate will be posted on the internal server/site so the designers can sign in on the project according to their time and willingness to join. Decaf will assign a project manager to lead the project and will be the liaison between the client and the designers and Decaf. He will brief the designers and decide the direction of the process This project manager will be assigned by decaf and can be a designer, if a designer brings a client to decaf he will be most likely the project manager cause of his history with the client. Though if for quality or client communication reasons the project manager will not comply, decaf will replace him/her. There will be a project independent quality team with curators, designers, design managers checking the quality of each project a few times during the process. this to have an independent point of view on the consistency and the quality of the project and make sure the client get the best product. After the posting and the designers applied for a project, Decaf will choose a group and send them to a location chosen by decaf (based on client location of inspiration for the project). Decaf will send tickets and arrange stay and workspace. with this group there will be a introduction week with small creative assignments and a lot of fun. after this week the project manager will choose his team what he thinks work best together(size decided by decaf). The team will work on the project and the project manager will present in stages the progress to decaf and the client. he will also do the final presentation to the client. After the project there will be a dividing of the profit with each designer a equal share and 1 share for decaf , the project manager will get an extra 5% over the designer part (see picture)
About DECAF DECAF's Ethos is about thoughtful design that starts with a strong concept but never forgets the user. DECAF is group of designers that believes that the talent of a designer shouldn't be limited to their area of expertise or training, and shouldn't be labeled according to his studies. A designer is able to expand his skills as he branches out into other areas of design. So narrowing the work a designer can do down to a single category is not the right way to approach design anymore; furthermore, one design discipline does not require greater talent than another, one discipline has to collaborate with other ones to create a real experience to the consumer. But is not only the experience the consumer has, It is also the reality that consumers are located anywhere in the world. So a designer has to be able to deliver a product that resonates to different cultures. As a multicultural and multidisciplinary team our conceptual process is richer with the different points of view and the execution of the final product using each others skills and backgrounds is outstanding. Combining our thinking and processes, we offer a more complete product. And, going back to the Ethos of DECAF, we will have thoughtful design that has thought of every detail from different points of view, conveying emotion in a clever way. About 100% Design For this show we decided to get our inspiration from the city and the urban environment. Where "skin" is the envelope of our body and communicates with the outside. But how the city communicates with us? As a group (DECAF) we want to break with paradigms and labels, we are taking inspiration of the city, and try to bring elements of the street into the inside living space. We want to challenge the regular Joe Doe to bring the language of his city within his third skin, and experience his city in a different way and bring the feelings of our streets to the living room Our aim is to offer the clues and particularities of the street to the intimate space. About our Products Lamp Here the inspiration comes from graffiti. Graffiti is the dialogue of city, of the Artist working in the dark. Here we put him in the light ! Graffiti is vandalism, but is it? Or is it art? Are we not selling in art galleries graffiti pieces made by street artist that work in the dark of the night where their own identity is hidden, And was there not just a major public museum display of street art in London, Tate modern by artist who only signing their pieces with their street name, like "Blu", "Faile" "JR" or Nunca This product is inspired in that moment: the shadows of the night, the art expression and the freedom in communication with the city. Lamp sheds light to this moment, allowing the artist lurking in the dark to bring the city into the living room, communicating with one individual at a time in the comfort of their own homes. SOLITUDE Bathtub The Bathtub's inspiration comes from invasion of the personal space. We face the intricacies of the city every time we walk out our front door. We walk the big avenues, we go back and forth to our jobs, schools, fun gathering places, we walk in narrow streets and we are always surrounded by strangers. On the street we are always surrounded by strangers but still maintain our personal space. We find solace in our homes, we close the door and we are in our personal space, we leave the city behind. Everything is familiar, everything is comfortable; we are within our third skin. But what if our most intimate space is surrounded by strangers, by the shadows that we see each time we walk our streets? In this bathtub the shadows of those strangers invade your most personal moment. but don't they all the time ? Pavement Vase What is it that we walk on ? Who ever stops to think about the pavement and the weed? As a tribute to the ones we always forget. Here is the conquest of nature over the concrete jungle Pre-cast Table The construction of our houses and city stay's behind the fence with the workers, daily we pass the sites not given any more notice than what we see in the corner of our eye. Reflections show us what we never consciously see or maybe don't want to see ! Is this the underbelly of the city or just the urban underground ? City Block The night falls, the city blocks rise as sculpture in the Darkness. Thousands of lonely travelers cutting their way thru the city, leaving a trace of light behind. Finally at home your kitchen awaits you with a gimps of your journey in the palm of your hand. Again, thank you for visiting us and your information request If you like any other kind of information.
